Cranberry is high in vitamin C and was used by sailors in the 18th century to prevent Scurvy. Modern research shows that cranberry provides an undesirable growth medium for bacteria in the urinary tract. Specifically, it has been shown that cranberry constituents appear to inhibit the ability of bacteria to adhere to the cell wall that urinary tract. Regular use of cranberry significantly reduces bacterial growth in the urinary tract. Since UTI (urinary tract infections) are quite common in many females as well as males, cranberry is excellent in the prevention of this health problem. It also helps with the bladder, cystitis and incontinence.
