Damiana has primarily been used for treating female problems. It has been found to strengthen reproductive organs and helps with menopause, by controlling and reducing hot flashes. It has also been used to strengthen the ovum in the female and to help balance the hormones. It is one of the bergs of choice for helping with sexual impotency and infertility with both males and females.

In children, Damiana acts as a laxative. It has also been used to help to relieve cold symptoms, relieves flu symptoms and is a stimulant for the Central Nervous System and it stimulates muscular contractions of the intestinal tract.
